What It Costs to Get Started
A realistic picture of the up-front investment to get licensed in NL. Figures are approximate and follow the standard salesperson path — we'll confirm the current amounts with you.
| Item | Approx. cost | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| NLAR pre-licensing course Fundamentals of Real Estate | ~$2,000 + HST | Self-paced online course + your first exam attempt |
| Service NL salesperson licence | $200 | Your provincial licence (renewed annually) |
| Real Estate Recovery Fund | ~$250 one-time | Mandatory consumer-protection fund |
| Estimated to get started | ~$2,750–$3,000 | Before NLAR/board dues & MLS® access |
Once you're licensed, ongoing NLAR/board dues run about $150/month — mostly errors-&-omissions insurance, CREA/association membership, and MLS/lockbox & technology access (standard for any licensed profession). We cover the brokerage-level MLS fee; you pay only your own NLAR dues. Already licensed in another province? There's a shorter reciprocity course (about $350 + HST) — just ask us.
Think of it as the start-up cost of your own business — one we help you turn into income through our support and coaching.
How long does it take?
Because the course is self-paced, a motivated person can be licensed and working in as little as a few months. Move at the pace that fits your life — you have up to a year to complete the course.

Questions, Answered
How long does it take to get licensed?
The NLAR course is self-paced and online, with up to a year to complete it. A motivated person can finish the course, pass the exam, and be licensed and working in as little as a few months.
How much does it cost?
Roughly $2,750–$3,000 to get started: the course is about $2,000 + HST (includes your first exam attempt), the salesperson licence is $200, and the one-time Real Estate Recovery Fund is about $250. After that, ongoing NLAR/board dues run about $150/month (mostly E&O insurance and association membership). We'll walk you through every number.
Do I need a degree or experience?
No. The NLAR pre-licensing course is open to people new to the field — no university degree or prior real estate experience required. What matters most is drive and people skills. We provide the training to build the rest.
Can I keep working while I study?
Yes. The course is self-paced and fully online, so most people study around their current job and finish at a pace that fits their life.
I'm already licensed in another province — can I transfer?
Yes. Agents licensed in another Canadian province typically take a shorter reciprocity course (about $350 + HST). We make moving your licence and your book of business to Royal LePage Turner seamless.
What's the very first step?
Reach out for a no-pressure conversation, or enrol in the NLAR course. Because your licence must be sponsored by a brokerage, the key is having a broker ready to authorize it — pass the course and we sponsor you.
Is there ongoing training to keep my licence?
Yes — within your first 90 days you complete NLAR's agent orientation course, and all REALTORS® earn 12 continuing-education credits every two years to keep their licence current. We keep you on track for both.
Curious? Let's Have a No-Pressure Conversation.
Whether you're ready to enrol or just exploring the idea, we'll map out the path with you — confidentially, with no obligation.
P.S. Every inquiry is completely confidential — no pressure, no judgment, just a genuine conversation about your future.
